Golf in the Golden Isles

In the early 1930's, Bobby Jones played the course at Sea Side and was quoted as saying it was the best 9-holes of golf he'd ever played.  That's saying a lot...  and since Bobby Jones' days, it's only gotten better...

The Golden Isles has long been attracting golfers from all over the country and all over the world. The mild coastal Georgia climate makes golfing a year-round pleasure.  Generally, the golf courses in this area are comprised of Bermuda grass fairways and greens with Rye grass overseeding in the winter months to maintain the lush green picturesque look throughout the year. With plenty of world-class golf courses, both private and public, there are enough options to keep even the most discerning golfers happy.

Our area golf courses have hosted several major recognized golf events from the SEC Championship held here annually to the Sea Island sponsored UBS Cup.  Sea Island also hosted the Walker Cup in 2001 and the US Ladies Mid-AM will be played here later this year.  Multiple senior and junior golf events as well as charity golf events take place on here on a regular basis.

Sea Island alone has spent over $25.0 million developing their golf courses over the past ten years and continues this growth with a new golf course and residential community currently under way on the north end of St. Simons Island.

With courses designed by Tom Fazio, Reese Jones and Davis Love, III, it's no wonder why our community can attract such world reknown PGA golfers as Davis Love,III, Jonathan Bird, Matt Kucher and Arnold Palmer as local residents and/or members of our area golf clubs.

World-class golfing is not limited strictly to St. Simons Island and Sea Island.  The Brunswick Country Club's Golf Course was designed by the eminent Scottish golf course designer, Donald Ross who also designed Pinehurst in North Carolina, Seminole in North Palm Beach, Florida and an entire list of great golf courses all over the country.
